TURBINE FLOW METER

The turbine flow meter is an accurate and reliable flow meter for liquids and gases. Turbine flow meter use the mechanical energy of a turbine to rotate and the stream is converted to rotational energy used to run the turbine. Shaft rotation can be detected by movement of its blades, Some turbine flowmeters have grease fittings for use with non-lubricating fluids. Flow can be measured by measuring the liquid velocity over that particular area and calculating it. Precisely, it’s used to measure flow electronically. Historically, they were preferred for clean, low viscosity liquid. But it's not suitable for highly vicious liquids.

Turbine flowmeters are less accurate at low flow rates due to rotor/bearing drag that slows the rotor.Make sure to operate these flowmeters above five percent of maximum flow.In some of the applications, bearing replacement may need to be performed routinely.Applications in dirty fluids should be avoided so as to reduce the possibility of flowmeter wear and bearing damage.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Accurate measurements at economic price

  • Easy to install and maintain

  • Simple and durable construction

  • It can operate over a wide range of temperatures and pressures

  • Provides a convenient signal output

It also has few limitations.Turbine flow meters can be used with clean liquids and gases only.It is not applicable for measuring corrosive fluids and it may not function properly with high viscosity fluids.
